Ideally I would have bought a gas locker, but none of the boxier style gas lockers online would fit in that space. I wanted the bike to be secured inside the van in order to be kept out of the way of thieves. I purchased the Thule pincer arm from eBay, which would be mounted to the floor. The back of the bike was held by a clip on dummy axle setup which I manufactured out of steel plate. The top and bottom rectangles were welded together first, before they were joined together with the upright sections. I did it this way around as it it was important that the top especially and bottom sections were completely square. I was considering painting the metal frame black, but I am now considering allowing the table to rust and applying a clear coat over the top. I think the rusty steel and oak flooring is a nice colour combination. This meant the part required a lot of further finishing with files and emery paper. The hex keys were cut from a set. In the final design the hex keys should have been retractable, so only one key would be pushing through at any one time. There was no bearings in the headtube, so the steering was very stiff as the bottom of the headtube rested on the bottom fork yoke. I had never done any metalwork machining before, so this was quite an enjoyable challenge.
